Avalon started in 1991 with a product called Ciim (Computer Integrated Interactive Manufacturing). It was an early Client/Server solution based on the Sybase database, and built with Sybase tools. As they grew quickly in the heat of the early Y2K buying spree, they came across many customers that wanted to an Oracle database, as opposed to the Sybase database. The original founder felt Sybase was a better database, and was reluctant to switch technologies. Eventually, they made a decision to send the code over to India, having found a company to “convert” the product to run on the Oracle database. This never quite worked. In December of 1994, they closed the doors. Company just shut down, died. At it’s peak it had ~125 employees.
